Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday said the allotment of Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) tenements will be made in the name of women family heads. 


On the occasion of International Women’s Day, addressing DMK women's wing meet in Chennai, party president Stalin said, TNUHDB's housing scheme and title deeds will favour women heads of the families.


He also recalled former TN CM and late DMK patriarch Karunanidhi's move to allot houses of Samathuvapuram (equality houses) in the favour of women's family heads.

Further, he said, “Instead of just praising women verbally let us praise them in our everyday life. Let us ensure their role in politics. I request all the women who are here to showcase their full potential and I want you all to be role models for the country.”


“You should become strong women without shyness or fear as mentioned by the Dravidian ideology. The party’s women’s wing should function accordingly,” he said.

On International Women's Day, AIADMK leaders O Panneerselvam and K Palaniswami cut cakes along with the party's women functionaries and workers. 


The Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal and his wife Mamta Jiwal took part in an event of women police officers and personnel in Chennai Commissioner's office. 


Meanwhile, MNM leader Kamal Haasan in a wish on women's day said, "We called her an angel, we called her a deity. However, realising the reality, we have started to say that women are equal to men. On this day, that stands as the identity to the fact, I congratulate all the fellow travelers on the iconic women's day."
