New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting to release funds to recover from the mayhem created by the recent rains in the state which left the infrastructure in the doldrums.
Requesting the Home Affairs to release the central assistance, the CM said in a letter, "The government of Tamil Nadu took expeditious relief operations and restored normalcy in the shortest possible time."
"We have submitted three memoranda seeking relief assistance from the government of India to tune of Rs 4,719.62 crore for permanent restoration of damaged infrastructure like roads, bridged and public buildings, etc, while for the temporary restoration Rs 1,510.83 crore," he added in the letter.
He further mentioned the stressful financial situation of the state in the letter. "The financial position of the state government has been under severe stress due to Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent floods only accentuated it. The State Disaster Response Funds have also been fully utilised," he wrote in a letter to PM Modi.
