Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated 321 newly constructed houses for residents of Sri Lankan Tamils rehabilitation camps in Dindigul district via video-conferencing on Wednesday.
A tweet from the CMO's account said, "Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated 321 new houses and infrastructure facilities for residents of Sri Lankan rehabilitation camps in Thotanothu, Adiyanoothu and Gopalpatti panchayats of Dindigul district at a cost of 17.84 crores."

The homes were constructed as part of the first phase of the project for Sri Lankan Tamils to lead a dignified life in Tamil Nadu.
On August 27, 2021, Tamil Nadu CM Stalin announced welfare measures to the tune of Rs 317.4 crore for Sri Lankan Tamils living in rehabilitation centers. Out of the total allocation, the state government decided to utilize Rs 231.45 crore to construct 7,469 houses at the camps.
In the first leg of the project, the state is mulling to construct 3,510 houses for Rs 108 crore by the end of the financial year. Stalin laid the foundation stone for the project in November last year.

The CM also inspected the camp at Melmonavoor. The government has also planned for other welfare schemes including providing handloom clothes, utensils, subsidized cooking gas cylinders and clothes. The state has also planned for a skill development program for 5,000 people at the cost of Rs 10 crore.
