Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Condemns Violence Against Tamil Students, Vandalism Of Portraits At JNU

CM Stalin further slammed the JNU securities and Delhi Police for turning out to be mute spectators to the violence unleashed on the students

Amid reports of an alleged clash between ABVP and JNUSU students at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday claimed that portraits of leaders like Periyar and Karl Marx were vandalised and condemned the attacks on Tamil students. He called for strict action against perpetrators from the university administration.

"Universities are not just spaces for learning but also for discussion, debate & dissent.The cowardly attack on Tamil students by ABVP & vandalising the portraits of leaders like Periyar, Karl Marx at JNU, is highly condemnable and calls for a strict action from the university administration," Stalin tweeted.

CM Stalin further slammed the JNU securities and Delhi Police for turning out to be mute spectators to the violence unleashed on the students. "The securities of JNU & Delhi Police have time and again turned mute spectators to the violence unleashed on students who fight for their rights & are critical of the Union BJP regime.

"I express my solidarity with the students & request VC to initiate action against the culprits and protect students from Tamil Nadu," he further tweeted.

Following the Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti, ABPV alleged that students affiliated with left organisations vandalised the office of students union. On the flip side, JNU Students' Union maintained that students were attacked by ABPV members.

News agency ANI reported that Chhatrapati Shivaji's portraits were placed on the walls of the students activity centre.
