Chennai: About 16.34 lakh people took their jab during the second mass vaccination drive organized in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. Even though it is five times more than the state’s daily average, it is less when compared with the number of people who took their inoculation during last week’s mass vaccination drive.

According to a report in the Times of India, the Greater Chennai Corporation has inoculated about 2.01 lakh people - 98,227 people took their first dose and 93,123 people took their second dose - in its 15 zones and the number is higher than last week’s count 1.85 lakh.

Quoting an unidentified corporation official, the report said that about 1,600 camps were set up across the city at places like malls, bus stands and near Marina beach apart from organizing mobile vaccination camps at different locations to target migrant workers and senior citizens.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Sunday said Coimbatore has topped the state in vaccinating the highest number of people in the state, according to a report in IANS.

The minister who spoke to reporters after inaugurating vaccination camps at Pollachi in Coimbatore, said that 29.27 lakh people who are aged above 18 years, had taken their jabs in the district and of which, 75% of them had taken only first dose while the remaining 25% had received both the doses, as per the report.
