After multiple reports said that Tamil actor Varalakshmi Sarathkumar was summoned by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a case involving her former manager Adi Lingam, the actor took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to rubbish the rumour. She said that she did not receive any such summons and the reports were false. Further, the actor clarified that Adilingam worked with her only for a brief period three years ago.

In a statement, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar said, “In light of recent events, I feel that it's important to address this issue for the purpose of clarity. All the news information circulating mentioning that I have been summoned by the NIA relating to a case involving Adilingam are false and mere rumors. No such summons have been issued. No requests for personal appearance anywhere has been made.”

The actor clarified that Adilingam had worked with her only for a brief period and that too three years ago as a freelance manager.

“During this period I was also simultaneously working with many other freelance managers. After his tenure, we've not had any association or communication with each other till date. I am equally shocked at the news. I would be happy to be of assistance to the government in anyway possible,” she said.

The actor opined that it was disappointing that celebrities were pulled into news without any truth or clarifications from the involved persons. She also requested the media to publish articles and information based on facts rather than speculate at the humongous cost of reputation.

Adi Lingam alias Lingam was reportedly arrested by NIA in connection with LTTE revival conspiracy case. He was part of 14 persons arrested in the illegal drug and arms trade in Sri Lanka and India and a case was registered against him by NIA in July last year.
