Saran Raj, supporting actor and director Vetrimaaran's assistant, passed away in a car accident in KK Nagar on Thursday. The mishap took place when another supporting actor who was under the influence of alcohol rammed his car into the bike which Saran Rajan was riding on Arcot Road.


On Thursday, the police told Times of India, one identified as Palaniappan (41), a supporting actor, was returning home from Saligramam. He was in an inebriated state after attending a party with his friends. 


Around 11.30 pm, Palaniappan was driving his car and while driving in Arcot Road he suddenly lost control and rammed his car into the two-wheeler of Saranraj.


The deceased Saranraj (29) was a resident of Dhanalakshmi Nagar Sixth Street in Maduravoyal. Saranraj was reportedly not wearing a helmet and he died after suffering from a severe head injury, the police said, as per the report. 


The police registered a case and arrested Palaniappan. The police have also handed over the body of Saranraj to the family members. Further investigations are on. 


Saran Raj is the assistant of an acclaimed filmmaker in the South, Vetrimaran. The national-award-winning director has directed films like Polladhavan, Aadukulam, Vada Chennai, Asuran and Viduthalai. 


Saran Raj worked as the assistant of Vetrimaaran in Vada Chennai. He also played supporting roles in Vada Chennai and Asuran.

Vetrimaaran is currently working on two projects 'Viduthalai: Part 2' and 'Vaadivaasal'. The movie 'Vaadivaasal' starring Suriya is based on a novel written by CS Chellapa. The story focuses on the tale of a bull and its captor. The much-anticipated movie is expected to throw light on the importance of Jallikattu in Tamil culture. 


His last release was 'Viduthalai: Part 1' starring Soori and Vijay Sethupathi.
