An orange haze engulfed the American city of New York on Tuesday which was followed by an air pollution warning by the city mayor Eric Adams. The air quality health advisory has now been extended till midnight Friday, tweeted the mayor as apocalyptic smog continues to smother the financial capital of the US. The advisory states that the wildfires in Canada have deteriorated the air quality in New York. The worst air pollution in the town has forced residents to remain indoors.

While the authorities race against time to tackle the environmental disaster, people took to social media to post videos and photos of the renowned city of New York expressing shock, anger and pain over the climatic catastrophe and some even compared it with Mars.

A Twitter user  said, "This is not Mars, this is New York yesterday (7/6/2023) afternoon when thick #smoke from the multiple active #wildfires in #Quebec was advected over the region as a result of the dominant atmospheric circulation."

A user who was supposedly taking a flight from New York called it 'Mars'. "Not a filter. Flying out from Newark (Mars) this morning," the user said.

One wrote, "if you ever wanted to know what the gw bridge would look like on mars."

Renowned Indian chief Vikas Khanna too compared the city with the red planet saying, "This is 1 pm on Mars, I mean New York City. 🔥 😢"

A user tweeted a video expressing shock as he couldn’t believe the orange skyline covering his city is due to wildfires.

Another voiced the same concern saying he couldn’t find the forest fire videos and hence could not believe the pollution occurred because of Canadian fires.

“Anyone else think this is strange? New York is approximately 350miles from the Canadian border - even further from the alleged forest fires - how can these be blamed for this? Furthermore I can’t any footage of all these forest fires occurring,” he said. He added, “The world becomes increasingly insane with each passing day.”

The official Twitter account for National Weather Service New York shared a time-lapse video of the World Trade Center and the New York City skyline being consumed by the smog.

Some even edited the photos to compare it with an online game. A user tweeted, “Patch 20.2.3: Players must be level 58 to enter New York City.”

Another said that New York sky looks ‘crazy’ from all the ‘wildfires’ from Canada.

A user said that this was the worst air quality in NYC's recorded history

Someone also shared the poster of the film ‘Diablo IV’ below which ‘Welcome To Hell New York’ was written. A user tweeted the photo saying, “Whoever placed this time square ad yesterday needs a monstrous raise.”
