Swathi Murder Case: No Proof Of Electrocution Found In Accused Ramkumar's Death

Chennai: There is no proof to claim that the death of accused Ramkumar was due to electric shock, said doctors who examined the tissue of Ramkumar, the lone accused in the muder of a 24-year-old techie Swathi in June 2016. The histopathology experts on August 18, 2021 appearing before the State Human Rights Commission reportedly said that the organs of Ramkumar were in good condition as against an electrocution victim. 

On June 24, 2016, an Infosys employee Swathi was stabbed to death with a sickle in broad daylight by Ramkumar at Chennai's Nungambakkam railway station while waiting for her train. The body was left in such state for two hours following which the police have delivered the deceased at the nearby government hospital.

Around three months later on 18 September 2016, the police said that the lone accused Ramkumar allegedly killed himself by "biting into a live wire" in Puzhal Central Prison. Following this, the SHRC took a suo motu cognisance of the case based on the news reports and the developments have come after Government Hospital doctors who witnessed the body appeared before SHRC.

According to a report on The New Indian Express, the doctors who examined the body of Ramkumar denied proofs to claim that the death was due to electrocution as per the documents shared by advocate P Ramaraj appearing for Ramkumar. However, SHRC did not confirm or deny the documents. 

The doctors reportedly said that Ramkumar's brain and heart tissues along with the tissues from lungs, liver, tongue, lips, spleen and kidneys were also in good condition. Stating that the tissues will exhibit changes once electrocuted, the doctors in the copy of their deposition said, there was no evidence of death due to electric shock on examining Ramkumar's tissues. 

On Tuesday, Sayed Abdul Khader, Casualty Medical Officer at Royapettah GH on September 18, 2016 said the prison's doctor accompanied Ramkumar's corpse but no images of the accident or the treatment provided at the prison were revealed.
