Chennai: In a historic session, the Tamil Nadu government passed the Anti-NEET Bill against the entrance exam in the special Assembly session on Tuesday with the support of Opposition parties including AIADMK and PMK through a voice note.


The CM Stalin said, "It is a historic day today (Tuesday), where we all joined together not just to discuss NEET but to safeguard federalism, democracy, defend the right of the state Assembly and to win over the educational right."


NEET is not an exam but a death altar for sacrifice, he further said. 


The CM said, "Former Justice AK Rajan's committee submitted a report and based on the report we passed the NEET bill except for the support of four BJP MLAs. The Bill reflected the view of the whole house so the Governor should have sent the Bill to the President. However, he sent back the Bill after 142 days but his explanation for sending back the Bill is not right." 


Following the address, the Tamil Nadu government unanimously passed the Bill against NEET through a voice vote.

This is the seventh time a special session has been convened to pass a Bill since 2011. As soon as the special session started, the BJP leaders staged a walkout from the Assembly opposing the move to pass the Bill.


On January 3, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi returned the NEET Bill on February 3 stating that the Bill was against the interest of students, especially from rural and economically poor backgrounds. 


The Governor returned the Undergraduate Medical Degree Courses Bill 2021, which was passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly in 2021 with the support of parties including the opposition AIADMK.


While returning the Bill, Tamil Nadu Governor Ravi on the former Justice AK Rajan panel report said, "It is apparent from the above facts the report merely reflects the jaundiced view of the High-Level Committee."


However, the use of words like jaundiced view received the condemnation of DMK MP Senthil Kumar, who took to Twitter to express his disappointment.
