Several people were feared dead after a car collided with a government bus in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu late last night, news agency PTI reported on Tuesday.
A car collided with a State Government bus at Sangam - Krishnagiri Highways in the Tiruvannamalai District, as reported by the news agency ANI.
In another incident, five members of a family were killed in Jharkhand's Deoghar district after their car fell off a bridge on Tuesday morning, police said, as per PTI. The accident took place when their vehicle fell from the bridge into the Siktia barrage, Deoghar Superintendent of Police Ajit Peter Dungdung said.
"Five members of a family were killed when their car fell off the bridge into the barrage while the driver of the SUV has been injured," the SP told PTI.
The deceased were identified as Mukesh Rai (30), an engineer, his wife Lovely Kumari (27), brother-in-law Roshan Choudhary (23), a boy and a one-and-half-year-old girl, police said, adding that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations. The accident took place when the vehicle was on its way to Giridih from Asansol Sankul village in Sarath, Deoghar.
"It occurred when one of the family members, an engineer by profession, started driving the vehicle to take selfies and lost control over the SUV," the police added, as quoted by PTI.
On Monday, a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed in Gujarat's Palanpur on Monday leading to the death of one person. Congress leader Amit Chavda has claimed that three people including an auto-rickshaw driver are feared trapped under the debris. The Collector of Banaskantha-Palanpur, Varun Baranval, told news agency ANI, "The girders on the bridge fell possibly due to a mechanical failure. A team from Gandhinagar are on their way to Palanpur to conduct a technical study on this matter. One body retrieved from under the debris."
