Chennai: A self-styled godman who walked into a City Union Bank with a rifle and threatened the bank officials has been lodged in the prison at Nannilam on Wednesday. The man was identified as Thirumalai Samy entered the bank with the rifle and threatened the officials after they reportedly refused to provide a loan.
According to a report ABP Nadu, Thirumalai Samy runs Idi-Minnal Sangamam in Moolangudi village in Thiruvarur. He is an engineering graduate and is survived by two children and a wife. Earlier, he had approached the private sector bank for a loan to fund his daughter's education. His elder daughter is studying second-year medicine in China.
The bank officials reportedly asked him for property documents but Samy refused to provide them. He questioned the bank as to why it was asking for collateral when he has provided them the assurance to pay the loan amount with the interest. Following this, the bank officials rejected the loan application.

As a result, Samy went to his home, took his rifle and reportedly came back to the bank to threaten the officials for refusing to provide loan. As soon as he entered the bank, he took a seat and started to smoke. He then issued threats and said that he would loot the bank if they fail to provide the loan.
The bank officials immediately alerted the police who reached the spot and apprehended him.

The police lodged a complaint in seven sections including public nuisance and trespassing of IPC. He was taken into custody. After a thorough investigation, he has been lodged in Nanilam police station.
Deputy police commissioner Ilakkiya also visited the bank and conducted the investigation. She also combed the CCTV footge for details.
