Chennai: Bihar government officials Balamurugan and Santhosh Kumar visited Chennai and interacted with the migrant labourers from Bihar to know about the scenario on the ground.

After the inspection, Balamurugan, Secretary, Rural Development Department, Bihar said, "Few videos circulated through WhatsApp and other social media platforms with a message that these incidents (alleged attacks) happened with Bihari labourers - that news is fake. That has been confirmed, verified."

"That created a little panic but since then message has been given to all the concerned and also it is clearly stated by Tamil Nadu Police and other sources that these messages are fake. Right now the situation is becoming normal," he said.

Earlier, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said that a team will visit Tamil Nadu to take stock of the situation.

It all started after a journalist shared videos and claimed that Biharis were attacked in Tamil Nadu. The widely circulated videos and later news stories became the talk of the town in Bihar. Following this, CM Nitish Kumar directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Bihar to talk to the officials of Tamil Nadu.

Within a few hours, TN DGP Sylendra Babu said that the videos were false and action will be taken against the accused circulating the video.

CM Stalin also issued a press release and said that those spreading rumours against migrant labourers are against the harmony of India.

Stalin said, “Migrant labourers need not fear. If there is any threat, you can reach out to the helpline number.”
