New Delhi: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), country’s apex child rights body, summoned Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Irai Anbu over the delay in submission of alleged "unlawful conversion and abuse of minor girls" at an unregistered childcare institution. The NCPCR has also asked the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu to appear through virtual mode with the details on September 20.
According to a report on PTI, NCPCR on September 9 forwarded a complaint to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police about the childcare institution.
"However, no reply has been received from your good offices in the matter so far," the NCPCR said in a letter to Tamil Nadu chief secretary Dr V Irai Anbu.
Therefore, the Commission asked him to appear through virtual mode along with the details of the action taken in this matter at 3 pm on September 20 to explain the reasons for the delay in the submission of report.

The National Commission took the matter based on a report from Tamil Nadu State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The report mentioned about the alleged unlawful conversion and abuse of minor girls in the institute in Royapettah, Chennai.
Following this, the commission told the authorities to rescue the girls within 24 hours. He also told the authorities to produce the rescued children.

The commission also told the state to file a report within three days.
Earlier, TN Social Welfare Minister Geetha Jeevan said, the conversion row was blown up on the basis of a fabricated report.
The Tamil Nadu government also held a probe and later rejected the allegations of forced conversions in the school run by the Chruch of South India.
