Chennai: The good should survive, the bad should fall and its nature, said Perarivalan, one of the accused in the Rajiv Gandhi Assassination case who was released by the Supreme Court on Wednesday. The 50-year-old also took the opportunity to thank everyone who was instrumental in helping with his release after three decades.
Addressing the media persons, Perarivalan speaking for the first time after his release quoted the Thirukural 'அவ்விய நெஞ்சத்தான் ஆக்கமும் செவ்வியான் கேடும் நினைக்கப்படும்' and said it's the nature of the world that the good should survive and the bad should fall.
Taking to thank the people who helped him with his release, Perarivalan said, "People of Tamil Nadu voiced out for me. My mother fought for my release for the past 31 years. She faced humiliation and sorrow several times. The only reason why my mother and I held with the fight for justice was since the truth that was on our side."

"In the fight for justice, I had always been guilty on stealing my mother's life. As I was growing old, I wanted my parents to at least get to know the news of my release before their death,” he said.
Perarivalan also said, “My sister Sengodi gave away her life in 2011. I would also like to remember Thiyagarajan IAS who confessed of wrongly recording my statement. This created a change in the course of the legal battle. I would also like to mention SC judge Krishna Iyer, lawyer Anil. All of this has made me stand here."
He also thanked his father, sisters and their husbands.
To the question about the next course of plans, he said, "I just had the legal fight in mind for 31 years. So I want to breathe."
