Chennai: The Puducherry Assembly's Budget Session started on Wednesday with the customary address of Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. However, the Assembly was adjourned sine die for the first time even before the customary official announcement on the date of presentation of the Budget.
On Wednesday, Congress and DMK MLAs also arrived at Puducherry Legislative Assembly hall wearing black clothes in protest against Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. The Opposition party members also staged a walked out of the Assembly immediately after the commencement of the Budget session.
According to ANI, Puducherry Assembly Opposition Leader R Siva said, “Lt Gov Tamilisai Sundararajan went to Delhi and met PM Modi and Union Ministers several times. But now it's clear that she had gone to Delhi only for political reasons. The CM met PM but how much did he get from Centre? Till now there's no growth here.”
“Raj Bhavan has become a political place. A parallel government is being run by the Lt Governor. Puducherry CM N Rangaswamy should resign,” he said.

The Opposition also staged a protest against the privatization of the distribution of power supply and the Centre's failure to provide assistance to the UT.
Meanwhile, LT Governor in her speech said, the UT government incurred an expenditure of Rs 9793.29 crores as against the total out of Rs 10,414 crores in 2021-2022. The outlay incurred was 94.04 percent of the total outlay.

Soundararajan also noted that the expenditure incurred was the highest in the last four years.
