President Droupadi Murmu is set to visit Chennai as part of her visit to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on August 5. The President will be in Chennai to take part in the convocation ceremony of Madras University in Chennai on Sunday. President Murmu will deliver 165th convocation address of Madras University. The President will be present from 10.30 am to 12 noon on Sunday at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai, as per a report on The Hindu. 


The convocation ceremony will also be attended by Tamil Nadu CM Stalin and Minister Ponmudi.


Later, in the evening, Governor RN Ravi is expected to host a banquet for the President. 


During her visit, Murmu is also likely to rename the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan as 'Bharathiar Mandapam' and she is also likely to stay at Raj Bhavan on Sunday. 


On Monday, President is likely to leave for Puducherry.


Earlier, President Murmu was expected to inaugurate Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital in Guindy. TN CM Stalin visited Murmu in Delhi and invited her to the event. 


For the event, she was set to fly to Chennai on June 5. In a press release, Tamil Nadu government said, "Hon'ble President of India has given consent to inaugurate the hospital in Guindy, Chennai and to participate in the Centenary Celebration to be held at YMCA Ground, Nandanam on June 5, 2023." 


However, the President was unable to attend the event. 


President Murmu first visited Tamil Nadu after taking over as the President in February. She visited Madurai and got a swami darshan at Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai. Later, she took part in a special annadhana program at the temple. 


In the evening, President flew to Coimbatore to attend Maha Shivratri Celebrations at Isha Yoga Centre.
