Chennai: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Chennai on Thursday for inaugurating and laying foundation stones for 11 projects, Tamil Nadu police have put five-tier security in place and diverted the traffic on certain arterial roads of the city. 


On Thursday, PM Modi will reach Chennai and attend the program scheduled at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai at 5.45 PM. 


As a result, Greater Chennai police have deployed 22,000 policemen to ensure that there are no untoward incidents. The policemen will mainly be deployed in the stretch from Chennai International Aiport to Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.

Along with the policemen, Commissioner of Police Shankar Jiwal, eight Joint Commissioner, Deputy Inspector Generals, 29 Deputy Commissioners and SPs will attend the event. 


Meanwhile, Chennai traffic police have also provided a list of possible traffic restrictions in Chennai.

From 3 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, traffic restrictions will be in place on the major road including EVR Road,  Madras Medical College, Sardar Patel Road, Anna Salai and GST Road. The motorists using the roads have been advised to take alternative routes. 


The police have also banned drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles in Chennai. The PM on Thursday will lay foundation stones for five highway projects and a gasline project. The PM will also inaugrate 1,152 houses built under Light House project under PM Awas Yojana and multi-modal logistics park in Chennai.
