Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Chennai for the inauguration of railway projects including Chennai-Kovai Vande Bharat Express on April 8. The railway projects were carried out at the cost of Rs 294 crore.
On April 8, 2023, PM Modi will launch Chennai-Kovai express train. The express train will be the 12th route for Vande Bharat Express. PM Modi is also scheduled to inaugurate Tambaram-Sengottai Express, said a report on IANS.
However, the full details of PM Modi's itinerary are yet to be made public.
The new Vande Bharat Express will be the second express from Chennai. Earlier, PM Modi inaugurated Chennai Central-Mysore Vande Bharat Express in Mysuru.
Earlier, PM Modi visited Tamil Nadu to participate in Gandhigram Trust's platinum jubilee celebrations at Dindigul on November 11, 2022. He also gave away degree certifications to over 2,300 students of the 2018-19 and 2019-20 batches.
At the event, PM Modi said “Sustainable agriculture is crucial for the future of rural areas. Our organic farming scheme is doing wonders, especially in the Northeast.”
“Today, I am in a region which has seen the power of Nari Shakti. I see young women graduating here as the biggest changemakers. You will help rural women succeed. Their success is the nation’s success.” PM said, as per PM India website.
However, no party events were scheduled for PM during that visit, the BJP state unit president Annamalai said.
In July 2022, PM Modi visited Chennai and inaugurated FIDE 44th Chess Olympiad organised by Tamil Nadu government at Nehru stadium.
In 2019, PM Modi and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping visited Mamallapuram for a two-day informal summit. That was the second informal summit between the two countries. The first summit was held in Wuhan, China in April 2018. The meet was also viewed as a positive message to Dravidians.
