The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that hot and humid weather would continue in isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next 3 days till June 4. During the period, IMD said that the maximum temperature would likely be 39-41 °C.
In a release, Deputy Director General of Meteorology Senthamarai Kannan said, "Due to hot & humid conditions, discomfort weather is very likely at isolated pockets over Tamilnadu & Puducherry for the next 3 days (02.06.2023 to 04.06.2023)."
"Maximum Temperature is likely to be 39-41 °C, about 2-3°C above normal at isolated pockets," he said. The weather condition is likely to be humid even in the capital city of Tamil Nadu. In Chennai, IMD said, "Sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Maximum temperature is likely to be 40-41 °C and minimum temperature is likely to be around 30 °C."
Meanwhile, some of the parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to get a respite. The IMD said that light to moderate northwesterlies, westerlies and southwesterlies prevails over the region in the lower tropospheric level.
As a result, IMD said, "Light to moderate rain at a few places with thunderstorm & lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area."
An independent weather blogger in Chennai, Tamil Nadu weatherman said, “All stations in Chennai have crossed 40 C. Meenambakkam has crossed 41 C. It has been an absolutely sizzling day. RH% is around 40%. Don't go out for the next 2 hrs unless it is absolutely required. Will Meenambakkam touch 43 C, we will get official readings from IMD by 2.30 pm. Let's see.”
