Ola Futurefactory In TN To Be Run By All Women Team, Company To Employ 10,000 Female Workers: CEO

According to a blog post by Bhavish Aggarwal, the first set of workers started their work at the factory this week and the company has invested to train and upskill them in core manufacturing skills. 

Chennai: Tamil Nadu will soon become the home to one of the largest all-women electricity scooter factory globally to be set up by Ola in the state. Bhavish Aggarwal, the Founder and CEO of Ola Electric made the announcement on Monday stating that the factory will be entirely run by women and Ola Futurefactory will employ over 10,000 women as a first step towards a series of initiatives to be undertaken by Ola in an attempt to provide economic opportunity to women. 

According to a blog post by Bhavish Aggarwal, the first set of workers started their work at the factory this week and the company has invested to train and upskill them in core manufacturing skills. 

The CEO said that employing women not just helps their lives but of their families and the whole community. He also said studies show that only 12% of women are involved in manufacturing and it requires active and conscious efforts from all of them to prioritize upskilling and generating employment for the women workforce to become the world’s manufacturing hub in India.

After the launch and full operations, the company aims to roll out a scooter every two seconds after starting full operations. Along with the women, Ola will also receive the help of 3,000 robots, said a report by Bloomberg.

The e-scooter produced by Ola will be priced at Rs 99,999. Ola Electric started the online operation but due to technical glitches, the company postponed the operations to September 15, 2021. The first batch of Ola electric scooter delivery will begin from the first week of October 2021.
