Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a low-pressure area has formed over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea with the associated cyclonic circulation on Thursday. As a result, IMD also said that the low-pressure will gradually concentrate into a depression over central parts of South Bay of Bengal around November 19.
In a bulletin on Thursday, the IMD said, “Under the influence of yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over south Andaman Sea & neighborhood; a Low Pressure Area has formed at 0000 UTC of today 17th November 2022 over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level and persists over the same region at 0300 UTC of today 17th November 2022.”
“It is likely to move west-northwestwards and gradually concentrate into a Depression over central parts of So-uth Bay of Bengal around 19th November, 2022,” it said.

On the weather prediction for the next two days, IMD said, “Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at isolated over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal area.”
The IMD predicted heavy rainfall from November 20. The IMD said, “On November 20, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts of Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal area.”

The northeast monsoon (October-December) has been active in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry, with both the regions witnessing widespread rainfall.
On November 16, Rajapalayam (12 CM) in Virudhunagar district and Ayakudi and Sivagiri (9 and 7 CM respectively) in Tenkasi district received heavy rainfall, during the 24-hour period that ended.
