Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy made allegations during the voting of ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024 accusing police officers of circulating footage linked to Prajwal Revanna. Kumaraswamy claimed that the police disseminated the material targeting specific regions such as Bengaluru Rural, Mandya, and Hassan. Coming down heavily on SIT probe, Kumaraswamy said that he thought Special Investigation Team (SIT) would do a fair investigation but it was a Siddaramaiah investigation team and Shivakumar investigation team.
Speaking to reporters, Kumaraswamy condemned the incident, stressing that while he does not defend the content of the videos, he advocates for the enforcement of legal measures. Addressing the reporters, Former Karnataka CM and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy said, "I'm addressing this PC over a dirty incident which shouldn't have happened in society. On 21st April, a pen drive was circulated throughout the state. It was done by Police officers. They circulated it in Bengaluru Rural, Mandya and also in Hassan intentionally."
"At 8 pm on the night of 21 April, a person called Naveen Gowda tweeted to watch Prajwal Revanna's videos. I am not defending anything in those videos. Law has to take its own course, punishment must be given. There is no question of safeguarding anyone, irrespective of who they are," he said.
On April 22, Kumaraswamy said that Hassan JD(S) candidate Prajwal Revanna's election agent Poornachandra filed a complaint with the Hassan DC and Police. He claimed that complaints were lodged against Naveen Gowda, Karthik Gowda, Chetan, and Putti/Purtaraju yet no action was taken against them despite the FIR being filed on April 21. Additionally, he mentioned that the Returning Officer responded and closed the complaint on April 26.
He said, "No action has been taken by the Police or Election Returning Officer till now. Who shared the videos and pen drive? When the voting was happening, CM told at least 100 times that HD Kumaraswamy and JD(S) candidates will lose for sure and JD(S) will lose."
