Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a vibrant roadshow from the INS helipad in Adyar to the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The public lined both sides of the road, extending a warm welcome by showering flower petals as the Prime Minister proceeded with the roadshow. PM Modi was in Chennai for the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games 2023.

Prime Minister Modi is the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony of Khelo India Youth Games 2023. At the inaugural ceremony, the Prime Minister is also set to lay the foundation stone for broadcasting sector projects with an estimated value of around Rs 250 crore.

This edition of Khelo India Youth Games 2023 marks the first time the Games were held in South India, covering four cities in Tamil Nadu – Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, and Coimbatore – from January 19 to 31, 2024.


The Games feature over 5,600 athletes participating in 26 sporting disciplines, including traditional sports like Kalaripayattu, Gatka, Thang ta, Kabaddi, and Yogasana, across 15 venues for 13 days. A notable addition to this edition was the introduction of Silambam, a traditional sport of Tamil Nadu, as a demo sport.


Khelo India Youth Games 2023 Games event will be live-streamed on Prasar Bharati Sports YouTube channel. On television, the Khelo Games will be telecast live on DD Sports TV channel.
