Chennai: A woman was arrested on Friday for allegedly throwing acid on the face of a man who had rejected her marriage proposal. The incident took place near Adimali in Idukki district on November 16. The man lost his vision in one eye and is receiving treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The woman also received burn injuries to her face. 


According to a report in The New Indian Express, 27-year-old man Arunkumar, who is a native of Poojapura in Thiruvananthapuram, got acquainted with the accused Sheeba through Facebook and the two developed a relationship. However, Arunkumar recently decided to put an end to their relationship after learning that Sheeba was married to another man from Kerala, who is a painter, and has two children.

Arun also started looking for another alliance through his family members, and Sheeba got to know about this.

On November 16, Arunkumar and Sheeba decided to meet and both arrived near St Antony's Church in Irumpupalam near Adimali in Idukki district. They were  having a conversation about Arun's decision to end the relationship and marry someone else, when Sheeba threw on his face the acid she was carrying, the report said. Arun tried to evade the attack and in the impact Sheeba got acid burns on the face. 


Arun was given first aid in a private hospital in Angamaly and was later shifted to Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. 


The police booked the complaint based on CCTV visuals and took Sheeba into custody.
