Chennai: The body of a Class 12 girl who died under mysterious circumstances at the hostel of a private school in Kallakurichi was handed over to her parents on Saturday. The body of the girl kept in Kallakurichi Government Hospital was handed over to the parents with full escort and was taken to her hometown Periyanesalur in Cuddalore for last rites.
On Saturday, Minister VK Ganesan visited the hospital and paid respects to the girl. He also escorted the ambulance on the way to her hometown.
Earlier, the police also made it clear that only the relatives and villagers of Periyanesalur will be permitted to pay their last respect in order to avoid any untoward incidents. Yet, hundreds of people including her relatives and villagers gathered in front of the girl’s home.
The parents of the girl accepted to receive the body after the Madras HC questioned the delay in accepting the body and told her parents to receive it on Saturday for final rites.

The Class 12 girl was found dead on the campus of Sakthi Matriculation School in Kaniyamoor of Kallakurichi district on July 13. While the school alleged that the girl died by suicide, the parents of the girl alleged foul play in the death. A suicide note reportedly recovered from the girl said that she took the extreme decision after being tortured by two teachers.
However, the first autopsy report said that the girl died due to hemorrhage and shock due to the injuries. The case is currently with CB-CID for inquiry.

After the news went viral, protesters vandalised the school and set the buildings and vehicles belonging to the school on fire.
