Gnanavel Raja, Kalaipuli S Thanu Among Top Film Financiers Raided By Income Tax

Chennai: The Income Tax Department on Tuesday started to raid the residences of top financiers including Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green, Kalaipuli S Thanu of Kalaipuli Films International, SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures and Anbu Chezhiyan of Gopuram Films’ residence in Chennai. In a massive crackdown, the Income Tax raided the residences and offices of the Kollywood financiers across Tamil Nadu.

According to ANI, I-T Department started to raid the office of film producer Kalaipuli S Thanu in T Nagar. Kalaipuli S Thanu's last release was Karnan in 2021 and his next big project starring Suriya Vaadivasal is scheduled for release this year.

Film producer SR Prabhu's residence in Teynampet residence was also raided on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, this is the third time I-T sleuths are raiding the homes of financier Anbuchezhiyan.

Earlier, IT officials raised the office of Anbu Chezhiyan in February 2020 after the release of actor Vijay's Bigil. During the search, the police recovered Rs 65 crore in cash from his home. Anbu Chezhiyan's loan shark behaviour has also previously come under attack. 

However, the reason for the raids currently held across Tamil Nadu in producers' offices is yet to be known. The IT officials started the search at 7 Am and are still ongoing.
