On DMK MP A Raja's statement on Israel-Palestine, Tamil Nadu BJP vice president Narayanan Thirupathy said that it was shameful since they (India) have been friends with Isreal for over 70 years.

He said, "It is very sad, shocking and shameful...I am really astonished by the way A Raja has said."

"Israel has been our friend for more than 70 years now. No doubt we are friendly with Palestine also," Narayanan said.

The statement of Raja soon created a controversy with many opposing the MP. Soon, DMK leader TKS Elangovan swiftly clarified that Raja's intention was to suggest that when a smaller nation faces pressure, it is expected that all non-aligned countries would rally to its support.
