Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to integrate the caste census with the national decadal census. In the letter, Stalin wrote to Modi that the program would be a tremendous step when fully implemented towards bringing the benefits of progress to the most disadvantaged segments of society and building a stronger, more inclusive India.

According to the letter, Stalin said, "I earnestly request you to integrate caste census with the upcoming national decadal census. I have no doubt that this initiative will be a monumental step to take the benefits of development to the most vulnerable sections and build a stronger, more inclusive India. I look forward to your personal intervention in this regard."

"This will enable evidence-based policymaking, helping all of us to ensure an equitable and inclusive development. Undertaking this task concurrently with the decadal census would not only ensure comparability of data across the nation but also optimize resource utilization," he said.

In light of the above, he said, integrating the caste census with the proposed national decadal census alone can provide comprehensive and reliable data on the caste composition of society and its reflection on the socio-economic indicators.

During an event in Chennai on Saturday, Tamil Nadu CM and DMK President MK Stalin said, "Today, we are fighting against parties like BJP & AIADMK. We are in a fight against fascists. We are fighting against a group that wants to create a rift in the nation in the name of caste and religion....AIADMK and BJP are two sides of the same coin."
