Income Tax officials on Thursday carried out searches at multiple locations in Chennai linked to DMK MP S Jagathrakshakan, the news agency PTI reported, citing police sources. The searches were being held at many places, including some educational institutions, sources said without divulging details. Jagathrakshakan represents Arakkonam in the Lok Sabha.


DMK leader TKS Elangovan reacted to the raids on party MP S Jagathrakshakan and said that it was a political vendetta. He slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party and said that the saffron party is a barbaric class of people, and these people do not respect the Constitution or any law.


TKS Elangovan said, "It is very obvious that it is political vendetta...These people want to terrorise the opposition parties. They are misusing all their powers. They are not fit to rule a country as per law. BJP is a barbaric class of people who do not respect the Constitution or any law - who will do anything for their benefits..."






Last month, IT officials carried out raids across various locations in Tamil Nadu related to contractors and suppliers of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) in relation to providing equipment, the news agency ANI reported, citing sources. Raids were carried out at around 10 places in Chennai, including raids at India Private Limited and Radha Engineering Works Private Limited, ANI reported, citing sources. Senthil Balaji was the former TNEB minister.


In September, the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids on a close aide of Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji, who is accused of an alleged cash-for-jobs scam. Around 10 premises of the unnamed aide of the minister were raided in Tamil Nadu. Balaji was arrested by ED officials on June 14 in connection with the cash-for-jobs scam. He was produced in the MP/MLAs Special Court in Chennai.
