DMK MP Kanimozhi NVN Somu on Saturday said that the hunger strike organised by the party is not only against the BJP but also against Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. The MP made the statement after DMK called for a statewide protest condemning National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) on August 20. DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has also called for medical wing students, teachers and others to join the protest against the medical entrance test.

On the party's statewide hunger strike against NEET on August 20, DMK leader Kanimozhi NVN Somu said, “This hunger strike has been called for demanding ban on NEET, for which the DMK government has been continuously placing a request to the BJP. This strike is not only against the BJP but also against the Tamil Nadu Governor who has been running away from the resolution passed in the state Assembly."

Earlier, Udhayanidhi Stalin said, "
I request all public, students and teachers and families of the affected to take part in this protest and why we don't want NEET in Tamil Nadu and we don't want any more deaths in Tamil Nadu."

The demand to ban NEET has once again traction after Jagadeeswaran, a 19-year-old aspirant from Chrompet, died by suicide after he failed the exam two years in a row. Surprisingly, Selva Sekar, Jagadeeswaran's 48-year-old father, too killed himself in Chrompet after Jagadeeswaran's passing. Last year, the Tamil Nadu assembly introduced a measure that calls for the state's NEET to be abolished.
