After a quarrel over washing clothes in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri, an Indian Army man called Prabhu was beaten to death on Wednesday by a DMK councillor and his followers. Prabhu's brother Prabhakar, who is also an Army jawan, has sought justice for his brother and has stated that he "was beaten by 6-7 people. After that, my brother who died was beaten up by a steel rod & knife. He was in ICU for 6 days but eventually passed away," news agency ANI reported.

The wife of the Army soldier said that as her husband's condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Kaveripattinam hospital. "My husband fell down... My husband did not even drink water. We admitted him to a hospital in Kaveripattinam, my husband was serious," wife of Army personnel who was killed allegedly by a DMK councillor in Krishnagiri, said, ANI reported.

The Army soldier's brother described the horror and claimed that DMK councillor Chinnasamy started the conflict. Later that evening, according to Prabhakar, as his father and his buddy were having a conversation, Chinnasamy arrived and started hoisting up his father, who then instructed him to take his brother inside.

"Our brawl broke out when we were washing clothes during the day. Then in the evening the councillor came to our home, started abusing my father & then attacked him with a knife," he stated.

Opposition parties responded to the event by claiming that because a DMK councillor was involved, the police took too long to respond. However, District SP Sarojkumar Thakur refuted the claims and emphasised that Prabhu's death was the result of an attack and had nothing to do with politics. Thakur stated that Prabhu and Chinnasamy were related.

In order to achieve justice, Thakur promised that rumour mongers will unquestionably be prosecuted and that police would support the victim's family in whatever way possible.
