Chennai: Tamil Nadu Minister for Higher Education K Ponmudy said that a committee will be set up to review all textbooks of Political Science courses conducted by all the universities in the state as the government found content that instigates communal violence and misinformation about state politics in the Political Science textbook for the first year in Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU).
The government has initiated an investigation against the Vice-Chancellor of TNOU and the author of the textbook. The minister while speaking to the reporters about the issue, read out a portion of the textbook: “Many Indian political parties, especially those against religion like the DMK and the communist parties are converting Muslims into vote banks. The parties are preventing them from integrating into the national path. The parties encourage minorities blindly. When Muslims cause riots and violence, these parties don’t condemn that,” the content found on page 142 of the first-year Political Science books read.
The minister said strict actions will be taken on people involved in this issue after the Vice-Chancellor failed to give an explanation. The minister also assured that the government has set sights to review and rewrite the content wherever it is required a Twitter user shed light on other such communal portions printed in the same textbook.
