Stating that DMK-led government promised in the manifesto to provide subsidies for gas cylinders, Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai on Thursday highlighted that Tamil Nadu government did not provide subsidies as promised for gas cylinders, petrol, or diesel. He said that the DMK government was yet to fulfill the promise even after 29 months of coming to power. The statement of Annamalai came after Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, decided on Tuesday to reduce the cost of cooking gas by 200 rupees per 14.2 kg cylinder.
Talking to ANI, Annamalai said, “When DMK came to power in their manifesto they promised a subsidy for gas cylinders. Now, it is 29 months since DMK has come to power, they have promised subsidies on petrol and diesel and nothing they have given.“
Drawing comparisons with BJP-led Centre, Annamalai said, “Now, PM Modi is giving subsidies to the Ujjwala beneficiaries, 9.6 crore households straightaway Rs 200 for the last many months.”
“Now, after the historic decision yesterday, PM Modi is giving a subsidy of Rs 200 to all common households starting from today," he said.
Earlier, Annamalai thanked the Centre for deciding to slash the price of cooking gas cylinders. He said that Tamil Nadu BJP was grateful to the Central government headed by PM Modi.
Annamalai said, "In May 2022, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 200 subsidy to all LPG consumers limited to Ujjwala beneficiaries. In May 2023, Rs 200 per cylinder subsidy was extended for a year."
