Senior Congress leader and Erode East MLA EVKS Elangovan was reportedly shifted to a general ward and he will be discharged soon, said a report on IANS. EVKS Elangovan was admitted to Sri Ramachandra Medical College in Porur on March 15 due to chest discomfort and breathlessness.
According to the hospital sources, IANS said, Elangovan will be discharged from the private hospital in a day or two.
Elangovan was admitted to the ICU of SRMC hospital in Porur after he arrived from New Delhi on March 15. When doctors tested him for COVID, it was found that Elangovan was positive for the virus. They also diagnosed him with a coronary heart ailment.
He continued to receive treatment in the ICU. Last week, SRMC said, "E.V.K.S. Elangovan was admitted on 15.03.2023 in Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre with coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure and COVID infection. Now his COVID is negative and recovering from congestive heart failure in the Intensive Care Unit.”
The former Union Minister contested the Erode East by-election and won the seat with a landslide of 66,087 votes defeating the nearest rival K.S. Thenarasu of the AIADMK. He extensively campaigned for the polls.
The Erode East poll was necessitated after his son and sitting member E. Thirumahan Everaa passed away on January 4.
After his win, EVKS Elangovan took oath as Erode (East) MLA on March 11.
EVKS Elangovan first became an MLA in Tamil Nadu in 1984 and he has been in politics since then.
EVKS Elangovan is the grandson of Indian social activist EV Ramasamy Periyar.
The Congress leader also released a video stating that he was doing fine and will be discharged soon. He also urged the people to not believe any rumours.
