The nomination paper of AIADMK interim general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has been accepted for the post of General Secretary after scrutiny. The elections to the top post are set to take place on March 26.

Overall 225 people filed their nominations for the post of General Secretary. However, the nomination of Palaniswami alone was accepted. It is also expected that EPS will become the sole leader of the party.

Earlier, O Panneerselvam moved the Madras High Court against the inter-party elections. However, the Court allowed the party to hold the elections. The court said that the results cannot be announced before March 24.

With Palaniswami being the only candidate for the post of General Secretary, the AIADMK can announce the results after the withdrawal time ends, but with the Madras High Court restraining it from declaring the results till March 24, the party will not be able to do so, said a report on IANS.

Both the OPS and EPS camps are celebrating the court judgment as their victory.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 21.

The SC gave the judgment on an appeal filed by OPS.

The AIADMK general council meeting on July 11, 2022 elected EPS as the interim general secretary of the party and removed OPS and his supporters from AIADMK.

During the same time, OPS faction visited AIADMK HQ in Royapettah. A clash between the supporters of EPS and OPS ensued following which police sealed the HQ. Later, the keys of the HQ was handed over to EPS after a High Court judgment.
