Chennai: The Madipakkam police on Thursday arrested seven persons including an AIADMK functionary and his driver in Samayapuram in connection with the murder of a DMK ward secretary in Madipakkam. Based on the preliminary inquiries, the police revealed that DMK's C Selvam was murdered due to a land dispute.


Radhakrishnan, a secretary of AIADMK's Amma Peravai in Thoothukudi has been arrested along with six others including his driver Dhanaseelam from Samayapuram in Tiruchy, reports Times of India. The other members were identified as Vignesh, Bhuvanehwar, Sanjay, Vignesh and Kishore Kumar, who were arrested from Vikravandi in Villupuram.

Based on the preliminary inquiries with the accused, the police said, they suspect that Radhakrishnan might have murdered Selvam over a property dispute by setting up henchmen to commit the offense.


A DMK functionary Selvam was murdered at Bazaar Road in Madipakkam on Tuesday. While Selvam was reportedly talking to his friends, six men arrived in a car and two-wheeler and hacked him to death in full public view.  All the six members then fled the place. The incident that took place in a busy street caused panic among the people.

The deceased person Selvam of Kubrean Nagar, who was tipped of getting a seat in local body polls, was involved in real estate business. The wife of Selvam has now been given the ticket for urban local body polls.
