Chief Minister MK Stalin strongly refuted PM Modi's recent accusation that the DMK government had "encroached" on Hindu temples in Tamil Nadu, labeling it a "lie". Stalin did not mention anyone by name but insinuated that some people were capitalizing on spirituality for political purposes. At an event on reformist saint Vallalar's 200th birth anniversary on Thursday, Stalin highlighted the significance of the saint's teachings, asserting that they were especially pertinent in the present socio-economic milieu.

When some people attempt to confuse people, he said that Vallalar's wisdom was the key to addressing the matter, as reported by news agency PTI.

Two days ago, Stalin said, PM Modi during his campaign for Telangana Elections alleged that DMK government "encroached" Hindu temples in Tamil Nadu and carried out "irregularities" in the properties and income of the temples. Stating this, Stalin denied the allegation. The CM said, "I categorically deny this allegation and convey my strong condemnation to the Prime Minister."

He demanded to know how PM Modi who holds responsible and high office in the nation was able to make such a wrong and defamatory allegation.

"Is it fair to make such a comment in another state," Stalin asked.

The chief minister questioned the need for Modi's comment and asked on whose behalf he spoke.

Stalin asked about Tamil Nadu government's action of reclaiming properties worth Rs 3,500 crore from temples in the state over the past two years. He asked, "Is this wrong? We have conducted consecration ceremonies for 1,000 temples, so is it wrong?" Moreover, the government is investing Rs 100 crore to renovate 112 ancient temples that are a millennium old. Stalin questioned, "Is this a misguided decision?"

Further, he said, Prime Minister is at fault, whereas the DMK administration is committed to serving the greater good and working towards the objective of "all-inclusive prosperity".
