DMK MP A Raja Challenges Amit Shah To Public Debate On 'Sanatan Dharma'

The DMK general secretary A Raja also said that he is prepared to answer all cabinet ministers if the Prime Minister convenes a meeting.

DMK MP A Raja challenged Union Home Minister Amit Shah for an open debate on Sanatan Dharma in New Delhi. The DMK general secretary said that he is also prepared to answer all cabinet ministers if the Prime Minister convened a meeting. Raja said that Udhayanidhi spoke softly on the issue but he would go hard on Sanatan Dharma.

DMK's A Raja said, "I am prepared to give answers for all cabinet ministers if the Prime Minister convenes the meeting and let them permit me. I will explain which one is 'Sanatana Dharma' thereafter you decide..." 

Further, Raja challenged Amit Shah or any BJP leader to participate in the debate. He said that the party's fight against Sanatan Dharma helped with Shah becoming a Union Minister, Tamilisai a Governor and BJP MLA Vanathi an advocate, as per Times of India. 

Raja said that Sanatan Dharma was instrumental in creating inequalities among the people including Sati, a practice where widowed women were made to jump into the funeral pyre of their deceased husbands. He asked everyone if they wanted to revive those practices and said that if he accepted Sanatan Dharma he would not be a human.

Meanwhile, the controversy started after DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin said Sanatan Dharma must be abolished since it was opposed to social justice and equality. Udhayanidhi compared Sanatan Dharma to "coronavirus, malaria, and dengue fever," and said that it should not only be opposed but exterminated.

Earlier, in the Council of Ministers meeting, Prime Minister Modi allowed the ministers to address the Sanatan Dharma controversy with restrictions.
