Chennai: The ruling DMK MLA from Thiruvottuyur constituency KP Shankar and his associates hit assistant engineer of Greater Chennai Corporation and stopped the road laying work of the civic body in Natarajan garden of Thiruvottiyur on Wednesday night. Following the incident, DMK relieved the MLA from party post on the grounds of acting against the conduct of the Dravidian party on Thursday.
According to a report on Times of India, the Corporation allotted a tender for Rs 3 crore in the Thiruvottiyur zone to a contractor Road Links Infrastructure for laying roads and the Corporation look to lay the roads at Natarajan Garden First Street, second and third street on Wednesday.
As per the contractor's representative, the MLA reached the place along with his men and demanded to stop the stop. However, the assistant engineer intervened to solve the issue but he was beaten up. The Minister allegedly sent away the road mix kept for the site.

The engineer said, the MLA was angry since the work was carried out even after he told the contractor not to carry out the works. Therefore, he along with his men came and beat us up.
The scared employee called his senior officials but then went on leave. However, he said, the MLA later called and apologized for the incident.
When TOI contacted MLA Shankar, he said, he or his associates did not beat up anyone but he stopped the work since the roads were being laid without milling, which was against the norms.
Meanwhile, the DMK general secretary Duraimurugan in a statement said, "Tiruvottiyur MLA KP Shankar is relieved from Thiruvottiyur West Party Secretary post due to his activities against the conduct of the party."
