The party council meeting is generally held at Anna Arivalayam, but due to space constraints, this time it was held at St George's School. Earlier on Wednesday (October 5), the party high command announced new district secretaries for seven districts. Most of the Ministers retained their positions as district secretaries.

The number of deputy general secretaries was increased from five, so senior DMK members who weren't elected representatives can be elevated.
