Cyclone Michaung: Several parts of Tamil Nadu’s Chennai received heavy rainfall as cyclone Michaung approached the coast. The people in the affected areas have been advised to remain indoors and avoid stepping out of their homes unless very essential. Following the heavy rainfall, severe waterlogging and power outages were witnessed in several districts. The Tamil Nadu government has advised private companies in several districts to encourage their employees to work from home due to bad weather conditions.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has predicted that moderate thunderstorms and lightning with moderate rain and intense spells at times are very likely at many places over Thiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram districts of Tamil Nadu.
It further stated that moderate thunderstorms and lightning with moderate rain are very likely to occur in a few places over Ranippettai, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichy, Vellore, Thirupattur, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri Salem, Namakkal, Thiruchirapalli, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts of Tamilnadu and Puducherry in the next three hours.

11 Express Trains Cancelled
At least 11 express trains from Chennai Central were cancelled on Monday after the water level reached the danger mark at Bridge No. 14 between Vyasarpadi and Basin Bridge owing to heavy downpours. "In view of heavy rain in Chennai and the water crossing the danger level in Bridge No. 14 between Basin Bridge and Vyasarpady stations, the trains have been regulated as given below. Please go through and plan your journeys accordingly. We regret the inconvenience caused," the Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai, Southern Railway, posted on X.
TN Govt Advises Private Companies To Encourage Work From Home
Due to the unpleasant weather in the wake of cyclone Michaung, the Tamil Nadu government has urged private companies to give work-from-home option to their employees in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts, as per the India Today report. However, essential services such as milk supply and healthcare facilities would be operational.
Cyclone Michaung is expected to hit the west-central Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts by December 4 forenoon.

Speaking to ANI amid the approaching cyclone on Monday, the chief secretary to the Tamil Nadu government, Shiv Das Meena, said, "As soon as we received the forecast about this deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, the first thing was that our Chief Minister did was conduct a meeting. It was followed by a detailed meeting chaired by myself, the ACS and the commissioner of the Revenue Administration. We sensitised all our senior officers and also assessed the resources that we may require."
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued around 15 people from the Tambaram area due to severe waterlogging as heavy rains continued to lash several parts of Chennai district, as per news agency ANI.
In Constant Touch With State Governments, Says PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi cautioned countrymen on Sunday amid approaching 'Cyclone Michaung', saying that he was in constant touch with the governments of states on the eastern coast to coordinate relief and rescue efforts. He also urged BJP workers in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh to join the relief and rescue efforts and support the local administration.
Cyclone Michaung Likely To Make Landfall In Andhra
Cyclone Michaung, brewing over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to make landfall between Nellore and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh with winds that could pack speeds of upto 100 kmph on Tuesday forenoon, as reported by ANI.
