Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the depression about 830 km southeast of Chennai would concentrate into a deep depression on Wednesday. As a result, IMD said that parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts are likely to experience moderate to heavy rains in the coming days till December 11. The IMD also predicted rainfall in parts of Puducherry, Karaikal and Andhra Pradesh.

In a tweet, IMD said, “The Deep Depression over Southeast & adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal and lay centred at 0830 hours IST of today, the 07th December 2022 about 770 km east-southeast of Chennai and about 630 km east-southeast of Jaffna (Sri Lanka).”






As a result, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till December 10.

The IMD said that mild to moderate rainfall is likely in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal districts. 


"Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to be experienced in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai districts of Tamil Nadu and parts of Karaikal. Heavy rainfall is expected in Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchy, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram and parts of Puducherry on Thursday," IMD said. 


The MET department has also predicted that rainfall will likely continue in the regions till December 11. 


In Chennai, IMD said, "The sky will be cloudy and mild rains will be experienced in parts of the district. The maximum temperature is expected to be 29 °C and the minimum temperature is expected to be 23 °C."
