Chennai: As many as 1,25,147 residents took the Covid-19 vaccination at the Mega vaccination drive conducted on Thursday by the Greater Chennai Corporation. This is the highest one-day number of inoculation achieved by the corporation so far, said a report.
According to a report from The Hindu, the city corporation has conducted 400 special vaccination camps as a part of the drive to increase the number of people taking vaccination in the city. The corporation has organized two camps in each of the 200 wards across the city with the target of inoculating at least one lakh people.
The report said that the actual number of people who took the vaccination exceeded the corporation’s target itself.

Quoting a statement from the corporation, the report said that the civic body has been paying special attention to vaccinate differently-abled persons, pregnant women, lactating mothers, persons with tuberculosis, those suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, and people residing in slum areas.
As many as 5,487 residents in Tiruvottiyur, 3,350 in Manali, 5,634 in Madhavaram, 13,650 in Tondiarpet, 8,988 in Royapuram, 11,546 in Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar, 9,620 in Ambattur, 9,292 in Anna Nagar, 10,974 in Teynampet, 12,010 in Kodambakkam, 9,274 in Valasaravakkam, 6,473 in Alandur, 7,839 in Adyar, 5,510 in Perungudi and 5,500 in Sholinganallur took the jab at the drive on Thursday, the report added.
The report further said that the corporation would be conducting vaccination camps at 45 places in slum areas, 15 urban community health centres and 45 schools in residential areas in addition to the camps organized at the corporation’s mini-clinics for those with hypertension and diabetes.
