Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress President KS Alagiri along with his party members staged a protest at Kilpauk in Chennai against rising fuel prices on a daily basis in the name of ‘Dynamic Fuel Price’. Not only in Tamil Nadu, but the Congress is also staging a protest across the country on the same issue.
According to reports, in the last five months alone, fuel prices have increased 44 times. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal urged the Congress states units to hold symbolic protests and demanded the Centre to roll back the price rise.

“The BJP government has increased excise duty by Rs 23.87 per litre petrol and Rs 28.37 on diesel per litre. Due to the wrong policies and exorbitant taxes, petrol prices in many parts of the country has crossed the 100 mark,” the general secretary said.
Petrol prices have crossed Rs 100 per litre in many states. During the pandemic, the petrol and diesel prices have been increased by Rs 25.97 and Rs 24.18 respectively, he added.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, KC Venugopal emphasised that the protests will focus on the economic woes faced by the common man including the skyrocketing fuel and cooking gas prices, the rising unemployment and rising prices of all essential commodities.
