Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday wrote to Union External Affairs Minister Jaishankar requesting him to expedite the repatriation of eight fishermen from Tamil Nadu who are stranded at Muscat in Oman. The CM said that the fishermen who left for Oman on March 13, 2022 are stranded due to issues with their visas and non-payment of salary dues by their employer. 


In a letter, Tamil Nadu CM Stalin said, "I wish to bring to your kind attention the plight of eight fishermen from Kanniyakumari district who are stranded in Muscat, Oman due to the expiry of their visa and non-payment of salary dues by Oman national under who they were working."


"The fishermen traveled to Oman on March 13, 2022. I request you to urgently take up the issue through appropriate diplomatic channels to expedite the repatriation of the stranded fishermen and also to offer all consular support," he said.

The fishermen from Kanyakumari had gone to Oman with a work visa but from their time of arrival their employers have not been paid and their visa sponsor has also been largely unresponsive.

Earlier, TN BJP chief Annamalai wrote to Union Minister Jaishankar seeking his intervention to ensure that the eight fishermen are paid their salary dues.
