Chennai: The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) announced that the water supply will be hit in several parts of Chennai from Saturday till Monday due to the proposed shift of water mains in EVR Periyar Salai. The piped water supply will be affected in areas from 10 am on Saturday to 10 am on Monday. 


According to a report on The Indian Express, a press release from CMWSSB said, water supply will be hit in places including Vepery, Periamet, Sowcarpet, George Town, Broadway, Pudupet, Triplicane, Park Town, Chintadripet, Egmore, Perambur, Pulianthope, Nammalwarpet, Purasawalkam, Sembium, Otteri, Kellys,  TP Chathram,  Villivakkam, Ayanavaram, Kilpauk Garden and Chetpet.

The water supply will be hit since CMWSSB has decided to shift the existing transmission of water mains at EVR Periyar Salai and Junction of Whannels Road.

The shift was necessitated for the construction of a box culvert across the road for linking existing stormwater drains on either side of EVR Periyar Road in order to avoid flooding during the rains in Chennai.

The Metrowater board also asked consumers to store sufficient water and has given the phone numbers of area engineers to get tanker water supply if needed.
