Chennai: A man was arrested along with his girlfriend for murdering his estranged wife and carrying her body on the bike for nearly 40 kms to dump it at Sriperumbudur near Chennai.

According to a report on Times of India, the arrested were identified as K Naveen Kumar (25), a daily wage labourer and his girlfriend P Kalpana (27). The issue came to light after the police recovered a body of a woman from a bush in Sriperumbudur. They sent the body for post-mortem and identified the woman as N Priya (22), wife of Naveen.

The police then zeroed down on Naveen and started investigating him. During interrogation, Naveen accepted that he murdered Priya along with Kalpana.

The police said, Naveen told them that he got separated from Priya after she delivered a still-born baby and kept insisting that she wanted to get involved in sex work.

Annoyed by this, he reportedly said that he moved in with a divorcee Kalpana. Priya unhappy over the turn of events started to tarnish their image in the locality. She also tipped the police about Kalpana's ganja peddling. Following this, police arrested Kalpana and later released her on bail, the police quoted Naveen as saying.

After the incident, the police, Naveen and Kalpana decided to kill Priya. As per the plan, on April 22, Naveen invited Priya to his house in Teachers' Colony in Chinna Kancheepuram. He then served her liquor. Once she consumed it, the duo strangled her to death.

Later, they took the body and placed it in between themselves on a bike and started to go on a long drive. After driving for more than 40 km, they dumped her body in Sriperumbudur.
