Chennai: Man Attacks Accused Inside Court For Murdering His Son

Chennai: Tension prevailed in Allikulam magistrate court complex in Periamet on Wednesday after a 60-year-old man suddenly took out a machete and barged into a group of people to kill two accused persons in the murder case of his son.

According to a Times of India report, two accused were brought to court for a hearing on Tuesday. At 1:20 PM, remand prisoners Karthik and Iyappan who were brought to the court were being taken to the court complex on the stairs. Suddenly, a man identified as M Udhaya Kani of Choolaimedu barged into the group with an intention to murder the accused. The police escorting the accused immediately overpowered M Udhaya Kani and thwarted his attempt.

The police then arrested and remanded him into judicial custody.

The hearing of the case pertains to the murder of Udhaya Kani's son Anthony Ubalt. Iyappan and Karthik allegedly invited Anthony to consume alcohol at a corporation ground in Trustpuram in Kodambakkam and killed him over a financial dispute in 2018.

As Iyappan and Karthik are history-sheeters with previous cases pending against them and were involved in the murder of Anthony while they were out of the prison on a bond to not be involved in any offence, the police have kept them in custody for the past two years. Both of them are charged under a non-bailable remand scheme.

On Tuesday, a court assistant stabbed a magistrate in Salem for refusing to accept his transfer.
