A few schools in Chennai received bomb threat emails in Greater Chennai Police Corporation limit on Thursday. As a result, certain private schools have declared a holiday for students and have requested parents to pick them up and take them home. However, the police have requested the public to not panic.

In a tweet, Greater Chennai Police said, "Bomb threat e-mails were received at a few educational institutions in GCP limits. GCP/BDDS teams have been sent for Anti-Sabotage Checks in these educational institutions and action is being taken to identifying the culprit who sent these e-mails."

Police conducted thorough searches at schools located in prominent areas such as Anna Nagar, JJ Nagar, Parrys Corner, Gopalapuram, and Mylapore, following bomb threat emails, according to a report on Indian Express. Parents were informed about the updates to avoid a sense of apprehension.

School authorities immediately implemented precautionary measures and urged authorities for a comprehensive inspection. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS) were deployed to inspect the schools for any potential sabotage. As a precaution, students were made to leave the school premises early. Chennai Public School in DAV Gopalapuram and St Mary’s School, Parrys, were among those targeted with bomb threat emails.

Later, the bomb threat was found to be a hoax. Police stated that they were actively working to identify the individuals responsible for sending email threats to at least four schools in the city.
